Demons & Paranormal Activity
Before we get into this very controversial subject I would like to establish some kind of a beginner’s truths.
#1. Our God is a Holy god; therefore, neither He nor his angels will present themselves in an Unholy way.
1 Peter 1:16 Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.
#2. Our God has Absolute Power, no evil spirit, not even Satan himself is to powerful for him to defeat.
Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
#3. Our God does not cause people to be afraid Note: every time Jesus or an Angel appeared unto people and the person became afraid, Jesus or the Angel would tell them to not be afraid and comfort their fears. So if an Angel or something appears to you and you are afraid and the spirit doeas not immediately try to comfort you it is NOT of God.
2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
#4. Satan can present himself as a Holy angel. He doesn’t always appear in a Satanic form.
2 Corinthians 11:14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.
#5. Christians and non-Christians CAN be possessed. (Will discuss further down page)
#6. It is possible to be possessed from birth.
Mark 9:21 And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And he said of a child
#7. God is truth; therefore, neither He nor His Angels will lie or attempt to deceive you.
Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie…
#8. All Christians (Born again – prayed the sinner’s prayer) have thee ability to drive out demons. Whether the demon is within a house or inside of a possessed person.
Mark 16:17-18 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover
#9. Although ALL Christians have the ability to defeat the demons there are some demons that are more powerful than others and may not leave without special preparation on the Christian’s part. (Fasting and Prayer)
Matthew 17: 18-21 And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him… the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?... Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
#10. There are different types of Demons and evil spirits, some are more powerful than others and therefore more difficult but not impossible to defeat.
Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
#11. Demons CAN and WILL attack Christians.
1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
#12. JESUS IS THE LORD. That is a statement that NO DEMON can say.
1 Corinthians 12:3
Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that JESUS IS THE LORD, but by the Holy Ghost.
1 John 4:2-3
Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
The above was twelve basic facts that must be understood about Demons. Demons are real and they are a real threat to the church and they don’t play fair. I believe that the church has severely neglected to teach about these subjects. Remember, Jesus is Lord and NO DEMON can defeat Him. Don’t let demons be your one and only focus, always keep your eyes and heart on Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. However, I know from personal experience how hard it is to get your mind off of Demons when you and your family is being attacked by them every night without a rest. They are a real threat and must be confronted. If you don’t confront them they will continue to work in your life and your church unchallenged. Jesus knew that they would be present on the earth after he left the earth, so He gave us the power and authority to use His name to defeat them.
I know that many people do not believe that a Christian can have a Demon, but there is no scripture to prove this. The most common scripture used to back this belief is that light and darkness can not dwell in the same place at the same time.
Well, that’s not exactly true. Let me try to explain it this way. Go into a large perfectly dark room and turn on a light. Now look around, can you see some shadows in the corners, behind or under some objects? There is light and darkness in the same room. It is the same with your body, though the Holy Spirit lives inside of you when you are saved, if you had demons inside of you when you accepted Jesus chances are those spirits may not leave without being thrown out.
Sometimes the Holy Spirit will intervene and throw the demons out Himself. I think He does this for people who are praying and believing for the Lords help and they just don't know what to do themselves.
But keep in mind, the Holy Spirit's job isn't to cast out demons. (see John 14:26) It's our job to throw them out by the power and authority of Jesus' name and the blood He shed for us. The Holy Spirit helps and empowers us to do the casting out.
Now for the scriptures to prove this belief. We know that our human body is considered a Temple to the Holy Spirit. Originally, before Jesus died for our sins and becoming the final and perfect sacrifice, priests would have to perform sacrifices to have our sins forgiven. These rituals were performed in a temple, the first temple was Moses’ Tabernacle; the second was called Solomon’s Temple. Both had three main sections; moving from the outside to the center: the outer court, inner court, and Holy of Holies. The Holy of Holies was where the Ark of the Covenant was kept and where the Spirit of God dwelled. The Holy of Holies was separated from the rest of the temple by a veil (curtain). The Temple is a symbol of a human body. After we accept Jesus we become the Temple of God.
2 Kings 21
Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem. And his mother's name was Hephzibah. And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, after the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD cast out before the children of Israel. For he built up again the high places which Hezekiah his father had destroyed; and he reared up altars for Baal, and made a grove, as did Ahab king of Israel; and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them. And he built altars in the house of the LORD, of which the LORD said, In Jerusalem will I put my name. And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD. And he made his son pass through the fire, and observed times, and used enchantments, and dealt with familiar spirits and wizards: he wrought much wickedness in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger. And he set a graven image of the grove that he had made in the house, of which the LORD said to David, and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen out of all tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever:
This story show how that even though idols were inside of the Temple of God, the Spirit of God was still in the Holy of Holies. God was very angered by these evil things in His house and he destroyed the king for it, but he never left His house.
1 Corinthians 3:16-17
Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are.
So if we are a type of temple, it is possible for the Holy Spirit to be with our spirit while the Demon is in the physical body.
2 Corinthians 6:14-18
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
The Scripture which says light and darkness have no communion is not speaking about evil spirits. The word communion is speaking about intimate relationships between a Christian and an unbeliever.
And Finally, I have personally witnessed a born again Christian pray the sinner’s prayer and confess Jesus as Lord and later be overtaken by Demons and show superhuman strength, speak with another voice, etc…
So how do you get rid of demons? The most important thing is to be Born Again.
You can not defeat a demon if you are not saved.
DO NOT COMMAND DEMONS TO LEAVE IF YOU ARE NOT BORN AGAIN. This power comes from God ONLY if you have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior.
And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils...
Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the LORD Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.
And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?
And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded. And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.
You must believe first...
Keep in mind, there is no absolute chronological order that things must be done it in order to work. I have read books that say to do things in steps. I will put things in a similar order in this web site, but remember to be led by the Spirit. There have been times that the Holy Spirit has spoken to me, telling me to do things that didn’t make any sense but the results were immediate. Obedience to the Holy Spirit is far more important than suggested steps for removing an evil spirit. However, also keep in mind that the Holy Spirit will NEVER tell you to do something that violates scripture. So if the Holy Spirit tells you to put up a dream catcher to get rid of nightmares it is NOT the Holy Spirit, but a Demon trying to deceive you. Things that the Holy Spirit might tell you to do could be something like: pray, fast, read the bible, read the bible out loud in the house, lift up you hands and speak a blessing over the house, play true worship, etc… Once you are saved and know that there is an evil spirit that needs to be cast out,
PRAY FIRST and seek God’s counsel. Ask Him for guidance, strength, protection, and His peace to surround you. Demons always try to frighten you to quit, they know you have power in the name of Jesus. Ask the Father to send His Holy Angels to stay with you and protect you and your family. (Also pray for protection for your animals, although strange, my pets have been attacks by demons on several occasions. I think the demons do this because they know you love them and want to hurt you) Have FAITH. Believe that God will do what His Word says He will. NEVER GIVE UP. Demons are intelligent beings; they will rebel and try to stay after being commanded to leave. The reasons they do this is possible because they are hoping if they hold out long enough you will quit and leave in failure. Take authorityof the situation. Jesus has given you authority to use His name and power. Act like it. Don’t walk into the situation with your head hung low. You are a Child of God; you have the authority to talk directly to God in the Name of Jesus. You have the same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead living inside of you. Remember when the Demon attacks you, he’s also attacking God. They will quickly think twice before they attack again if you begin to use your authority and power in Christ. Even though you have God on your side and He will protect you, doesn’t mean He will do it for you. God expects you to use the power and authority He gave you. You must take the step of faith to believe God and use your authority. Command the Demon or Demons to leave in the Name of Jesus. Although they must leave doesn’t mean they will immediately. Like I said, they might be testing your faith to tire you out. But there could be a few reasons why they don’t leave.
The most obvious reason is if you are living in sin. Sin prevents God’s blessings and hinders the Holy Spirit. When you pray to God confess any un-confessed sins and get right with God FIRST.
Ask him to forgive and cleanse you of any and all forgotten sins as well.
The second reason could be a lack of faith. If you are doubting God the entire time you are praying and commanding the spirit to leave your prayers and commands are useless.
But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
The third reason the Demon is staying is if there is some kind of cultic item it has a right to. Examples of this could be: statues, demonic posters, evil music, clothes and jewelry with evil pictures or symbols, etc… If this is the case remove and if possible destroy the item immediately.
The final and most difficult reason is a personal one. Some Demons for are more powerful than others. They require Prayer and Fasting along with the power of Jesus Name to cast them out.
Matthew 17: 18-21
And Jesus rebuked the devil; and he departed out of him: and the child was cured from that very hour. Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out? And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you. Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
When faced with a demon of this power, pray to God and ask if this is the reason for the difficulty defeating the demon. Depending on the circumstances it may be necessary to quit and Fast and Pray for a few days then return and drive the demon out of the building or person. Remember, Jesus lived a Fasting lifestyle so you could say He was always ready to encounter a spirit like this.
One time I faced a spirit like this and was told by God to fast for three days but I disobeyed and then God told me seven days and on the seventh day the spirit left. This was proof that God told me seven days because there was victory on the seventh day. God may not require you to fast for such a long time. Sometimes one day is all that is needed.
It is not a formula, ask the Holy Spirit for guidance.
Demons can cause nightmares and demonic visions. These events strike fear and torment into the individual causing sleepless nights, anxiety, etc… Remember, God will never make you afraid, only Demons do that. If you have nightmares frequently, you need to pray to God for protection and deliverance of these attacks. Then command the evil spirit to leave in the Name of Jesus.
2 Timothy 1:7
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
