The FIRST WORD Jesus spoke when He began His teaching was REPENT. Matthew 4:17
So what exactly does this and other words used when reffering to salvation mean? Here are four of the more common words used from the Greek language.
Strong's G 3340 - metanoeō
to change one's mind, i.e. to repent
Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach,
and to say,
Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
(in the Son of God Jesus / Yeshua)
Strong's G 4100 - pisteuō
To put in trust with (one's spiritual well being)
John 3:14-21 (Jesus speaking to
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Strong's G 3670 - homologeō
Proverbs 28: He that covereth his
sins shall not prosper: but whoso confesseth
and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
1 John 1:9 If we
confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins,
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
Strong's G 4102 - pistis
Conviction (of God's truth)
Hebrews 10:38-39 Now the just shall
live by faith: but if any man draw back, my
soul shall have no pleasure in him.
But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
A prayer to be Saved...
This prayer is commonly referred to as The Sinner's Prayer.
I used to think it was a specific prayer in the Bible just like The Lord's Prayer in Matthew Chapter 6.
The Sinner's Prayer is just what it sounds like, a non-believer praying to God for forgiveness. (A sinner praying)
So If you are ready to ask God for forgiveness or you are a backslidden christian wanting to re-dedicate yourself to Jesus, then here is an example of a Sinners Prayer
I confess I am a sinner, I know there is nothing I can do to earn your forgiveness. I believe in your Son Jesus. I believe that you sent Him to the earth as a man to die on the cross as a payment for my sins. I believe that three days after He died, you raised Him back to life. I believe that Jesus is the Lord. Lord Jesus, I ask to cleanse me from all sin and unrighteousness and I ask you to come into my heart, I make you my Lord and my Saviour.
See Romans Chapter 10
If you prayed this prayer and said it from the heart, then you are now what is called Born Again or Saved. The Holy Spirit which is the spirt of God now lives inside of you. Your body has now become the Temple of God.
(1 Corinthians 6:19) What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
My personal reccomndation to you is to get a Bible (if you don't have one already), and read it everday. You may not understand everything you read, but even if you don't, it will still help you. When you read the Bible it strengthens your Spirit and later in life when you need guidance, the Holy Spirit will bring scripture to your remembrance. You may not remember where the scriptures are in the Bible, but you will feel a guidance comming from the Spirit.
John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance...
But if you don't read the scriptures you will not have anything for the Holy Spirit to remind you of !!!
